Where to go skiing nearby

From Peklo it is a short hop to the big Špindl or to smaller hills without queues. Here is an overview of where to head, depending on who you are travelling with and what the weather is like.

Our house under snow

Špindlerův Mlýn

The biggest resort in the area, about a quarter of an hour by car, and the bus stops on the main street below the house. Roughly 27 km of slopes across four areas: Svatý Petr, Medvědín, Stoh and Horní Mísečky. It is worth buying ski passes online in advance, you can rent equipment on site and there are ski schools for children.

Herlíkovice and Bubákov

The closest to the apartment, you can even walk here. The two areas share a ski pass and have around 12 km of slopes between them. They lie lower than Špindl, so the skiing is at its best in a proper snowy winter. After skiing you can eat at the restaurant right in the resort.

Kněžický vrch, Strážné and Benecko

Smaller resorts that suit families with small children and beginners. Kněžický vrch is on the hill across from us, ten minutes by car. Do not expect a black run here, but you will get peace and quiet.

Cross-country skiing

Five minutes from the house is the Vejsplachy area with artificial snowmaking. Groomed tracks also run from Herlíkovice to Horní Mísečky and on along the Krkonošská magistrála; the route from Žalý to Benecko is popular too. Whether they are passable depends on the snow.

Sledges and ski touring

For a sledge you only need the meadow behind our house, and if you forget to bring one, we have spares and are happy to lend them. For ski touring you can head up along the ridges anywhere where there is snow and a view.

Before you set off

Ski pass prices and lift operations change every season, so look them up on the resorts' websites. You will find more about winter around us on the Surroundings page.
